Caring for Your Soft Bras: Tips to Extend Their Life

Soft bras made from stretchy fabrics like cotton, modal or microfiber provide incredibly comfortable everyday support.

However, the delicate materials these wireless styles are made from require a bit of extra care when it comes to washing and storage. With the right laundering techniques and proper handling, you can ensure your beloved soft bras retain their shape, elasticity and softness for years to come. Follow these tips to get the longest possible life out of your comfiest bras.

What is a Soft Bra?

If you find yourself constantly unclasping and unclipping your regular underwire bras the minute you get home, it may be time to discover the wonderful world of soft bras. As the name implies, Soft bras are constructed from soft, stretchy fabrics like cotton, microfiber or modal blends without any rigid underwires or overly padded cups. These ultra-comfortable, wireless styles have surged in popularity in recent years as more women have embraced prioritizing all-day coziness.

So what exactly makes our soft bra collection so soft and flexible? The key lies in the knit fabric composition and lack of stiff structural elements. Rather than featuring molded, padded cups, soft bras rely on the stretchy give and tailored fit of the material to provide light support. Common fabric options include nylon, breathable cotton, or sleek polyamide and elastane blends.

Some of our soft bra styles feature a bralette-inspired design with a stretchy underband and optional cup linings for subtle shaping. Others have an elastic underband and seamed cups without overt padding. The unifying factor is that soft bras lack any rigid components that could inhibit movement or pinch the skin.

In terms of support levels, our soft bras run the gamut from minimal/lounge styles to full-coverage, maximum support designs, suitable for an array of sizes whether you are an A, D or H cup. You'll find everything from comfy bras and bralettes to silhouette-smoothing t-shirt bras in this category. Adjustable back straps and bands help customize the fit.

So why are so many women switching to soft bras? The biggest draw is the ability to actually forget you're wearing a bra rather than constantly being reminded by protruding wires, thick pads, or overly tight bands.

Soft bras provide just the right amount of weightless shaping and nipple coverage without any need for constant adjustment or suffering through discomfort.

Working from home? Soft bras provide all-day comfort with no poking or pinching. Heading to the grocery store or a friend’s house? Soft bras offer enough support to run some errands.

Stretchy soft bras like ours offer freedom of movement. And for those nights when you need to feel completely unrestricted, buttery-soft bras give you cozy support without any rigid elements. If you've been longing for a break from underwires, or just want something more casual, explore our soft bra category. You may just find yourself living in these stretchy, flexible, lightweight bras once you experience their heavenly, unrestricted comfort.

Hand Wash or Use the Gentle Cycle

Machine washing can be tough on soft bras, causing the fabric to stretch out, the cups become misshapen, and the overall fit deteriorates quickly. Whenever possible, hand wash your soft bras in a sink or tub with cool water and a mild detergent or dedicated lingerie wash.

Gently knead the bra to work the soap through the fibers, avoiding any excessive twisting, wringing or agitation. If hand washing isn't an option, use the gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine and place bras in a mesh lingerie bag to prevent snagging or abrasion. Skip the dryer and lay flat to air dry instead.

Rotate Your Bras and Store Properly

Just like your favorite t-shirts or jeans, bras will hold their shape better if they have a chance to "rest" between wearings. Avoid wearing the same soft bra multiple days in a row. Rotate through 3-4 bras each week to allow the elastic fibers to regain their stretch and resilience.

When it comes to storage, proper folding helps bras keep their form. Lay them flat in your drawer, gently cupping the cups together and smoothing out any wrinkles or creases in the band. Stacking bras or cramming them in drawers can warp the shape over time.

Refresh with a Delicates Soak

If you’re willing to put in some extra effort, once every few months, you could give your soft bras a refreshing soak using a lingerie wash specifically formulated for delicates. Fill a sink or tub with cool water and add a lingerie soak solution according to the package directions. Submerge your bras and allow them to soak for 15-30 minutes, which will help release any built-up oils, sweat or residue.

Gently squeeze out excess water (never wring!) and lay flat to fully air dry. The delicate soak will revive fabric softness while also sanitizing your bras. Just avoid using regular detergents or fabric softeners, which can be too harsh.

With proper care and a few simple tips, there's no reason your soft, wireless bras can't remain plush and comfortable for a long time! Treat them gently and they'll keep providing that supportive second-skin feel you love.
